Definition of Terms
There are many different terms used across the world in the field of career guidance and counselling. For the purpose of this manual each of the terms is defined below:
4.2.1 Counselling
Actively listening to an individual’s story and communicating understanding, respect and empathy, clarifying goals and assisting individuals with the decision-making process. Counselling is a mutual relationship between a counsellor (a professionally trained helper) and a client (a consumer of counselling services).
4.2.2. Career Counselling
A largely verbal process in which a counsellor and counselee(s) are in a dynamic and collaborative relationship, focused on identifying and acting on the counselee’s goals, in which the counsellor employs a repertoire of diverse techniques and processes, to help bring about self-understanding, understanding of behavioural options available, and informed decision-making in the counselee who has the responsibility for his or her own actions (Herr & Cramer, 1996).
4.2.3 Career
The interaction of work roles and other life roles over a person’s lifespan including both paid and unpaid. People create career patterns as they make decisions about education, work, family and other life roles.
4.2.4 Career Development
The total constellation of economic, sociological, psychological, educational, physical and chance factors that combine to shape one’s career (Sears, 1982).

| Director | Oversees day to day activities of the Centre, provides guide and framework for Centre programmes, initiates career networking and other responsibilities while also supervising and coordinating other units of the Centre, liaises with Management of the Institution for career service functions. |
| Deputy Director | Assists the Director in the day to day running of the Centre, coordinates other units and research programmes of the Centre |
| Administrative Secretary | Responsible for all administrative and personnel functions of the Centre while also keeping, maintaining all records and correspondences of the Centre. |
| Alumni Relations & Mobilisation Coordinator | Establishing contact and connecting students with Alumni, organizing career day for students and Alumni, seek Alumni to serve as mentors to students, get and maintain a record of Alumni progress in the industry.

| Counselling & Mentoring Coordinator | One-on-one guidance, career planning, resume review, interview coaching. |
| Industry relations & Linkages Coordinator | Employer engagement, internship coordination, industry outreach, developing job placement, volunteering and job shadowing scheme for students. |
| Research, Training & Development Coordinator | Organising workshops, soft skill and entrepreneurship programs, organizing mock interviews, industrial expert talks, disseminating research on labour market developments, following periodicals on what is happening in labour industry. |
| Information & Data Management Coordinator | Tracks performance, collects feedback, reports outcomes, obtain information on students, needs of the industry, availability of job placement, placing information on job opportunities, creation of LinkedIn profile and other social media platforms for the Centre.

| Financial Controller | Maintaining and updating the financial records and dealings of the Centre while also ensuring compliance with procurement and financial regulations. |
| Internal Audit Controller | Cross checks, internal control mechanisms for financial dealings and transactions according to laid down regulations. |
| Departmental Career Service Desk Officers | Prepare and update career/course maps, provide one-on-one career counselling sessions, conduct workshops on resume writing, interview techniques, and job search strategies, maintain and update job and internship boards, liaise with employers to facilitate recruitment opportunities, track student outcomes and gather feedback for continuous improvement in liaison with the Centre. |
